The 'Napoleon of Music', Rossini wrote his unique take on the Cinderella story as a bet in 1817. The triumphant result took Europe by storm and was one of the musical sensations of the age. Dispensing with pumpkins and panto, the familiar rags-to-riches story is presented as a human comedy, rich in insight, invention and pathos. A family drama that takes us beyond the fairy-tale and into the world of dreams and wishes, fears and hopes, failure and fulfilment, La Cenerentola pits love and compassion against vanity, greed and ambition in a darkly comic, musically dazzling masterpiece.
